Korey Kreider, PharmD, of Medicine Man Prairie Pharmacy Awarded with the NARD Ownership Award at the 2024 NCPA Annual Convention.
The National Community Pharmacists Association has honored Korey Kreider, owner of Medicine Man Prairie Pharmacy in Hayden, Idaho, the NARD Ownership Award during its Annual Convention, which took place from October 26 to 29 in Columbus, Ohio.
The National Association of Retail Druggists (NARD) was the original name of what is now the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA). Since its founding in 1898, the NCPA has represented community pharmacists nationwide. The NARD Ownership Award continues to recognize the dedication of pharmacists who are shaping the future of independent pharmacy, highlighting their entrepreneurial spirit and excellence in pharmacy ownership.
Medicine Man Prairie Pharmacy has been serving the northern Idaho community since it was founded in 1990. Kreider, a native of Coeur d’Alene, joined the pharmacy in 2008 as a pharmacy intern and quickly developed a passion for the profession. After completing pharmacy school in 2021, Kreider became the sole owner and is committed to expanding the services offered to the community.
Recognizing the growing need for comprehensive care in a region with a high percentage of patients lacking primary care providers, Kreider prioritized expanding beyond traditional pharmacy services. By collaborating closely with local physicians to identify gaps in care, Kreider implemented a wide range of services at Medicine Man Prairie Pharmacy. These services include vaccinations, rapid testing, urgent care, weight loss management, and asthma care. In response to the increasing substance use disorders in the area, Kreider launched a buprenorphine clinic in August 2023, providing essential support for patients dealing with opioid addiction.
Kreider’s vision for Medicine Man Prairie Pharmacy is to further expand its clinical services by offering advanced lab testing and health management programs for chronic diseases, such as diabetes and heart conditions. Kreider is actively pursuing partnerships with diagnostic labs and investing in staff training to meet the growing demand for these services.
“Medicine Man Prairie has adapted to the needs of Idaho patients by providing not only prescription medications but also specialized compounding for hospice care, veterinary medicine, and the rising needs related to diabetes and heart health. Their commitment to innovation in pharmacy practice is putting Idaho on the map. Kreider’s work is truly inspirational, and I couldn’t think of anyone more deserving of this award.” – A Local Resident.
As Kreider continues to innovate and expand their services, Medicine Man Prairie Pharmacy remains a pillar of care in northern Idaho, setting a high standard for independent pharmacy practice.
